Walking Tour: Architecture & History
Potts Point & Elizabeth Bay
Discover the wonderful and decadent side of Sydney’s housing.
Potts Point and Elizabeth Bay are amongst the colourful places in the country. With the harbourside location, these have been home to the very rich and the very poor, to churches and scandal. It has a most diverse housing history, including regency and Italianate villas, early apartment buildings for the rich and the best collection of art deco apartments in Sydney.
Starting at the heritage-listed El Alamein Memorial Fountain, enjoy a walk via 10 historical points from The Metro Theatre, once one of the finest art deco theatres in the country (1939); Elizabeth Bay House, one of the few remaining Regency Villa (1839) to Birtley Towers, the biggest most luxurious apartment building of the country in its day (1934).
