IATG invites you to our Annual Workshop

Everyday, tour guides and tour leaders face the challenge of diversity, understanding our customers cultural differences or disability in order to break barriers and build bridges.

It is our job as guides to educate, entertain and inspire travel and allow people to appreciate different parts of the world. However, as guides and presenters, we first have to bridge the intercultural or disabilities gap ourselves. We need to make our guests feel comfortable, we need to respect their boundaries and communicate in a way that doesn’t offend any of their unique sensibilities. Not an easy task, and not one that you can get right all of the time.

To help you with this sometimes daunting task, join our annual professional development Workshop to develop our understanding of diversity. We have a great array of speakers including:

  • Simon Darcy, who specialises in developing inclusive approaches for diversity groups, including people with disability
  • Sahar Elsemary, an experienced guide who has been enticing the tastebuds of visitors on tantalising tours across our multi-cultural suburbs of Sydney.
  • Claudia Renner, from Destination NSW, will highlight how Vivid caters for people with accessibility needs to create a safe, inclusive and enjoyable event for all from wheelchair-friendly venues, Auslan interpreters and audio tours.

  • Steve McAuley, a Trainer and Guide at Sydney Opera House, where he leads a variety of tours including specialist tours for visually impaired and autistic visitors. Steve is also a qualified audio-describer for blind people.

We have also have a yummy lunch, catering will be by Egyptian Bites
