Presentation on the Macquarie Atlas of Indigenous Australia


Dr Bill Arthur will give a presentation on the Macquarie Atlas of Indigenous Australia (2nd edition) and you can purchase a copy of the atlas at a special price of $50 (RRP $79.99). The books will be available to collect at the event.

The Macquarie Atlas of Indigenous Australia is a refence work of almost 300 maps showing distributions across the coutnry of a wide range of topics supported by illustrations and descriptive text. Around half the chapteres deals with social and cultural subjects (initial migration to Australia; population; material culture; language; and social structure) and the other half with health; education; social justice and land tenure..

Dr Bill Arthur is one of the editors of the atlas. He has been involved in Indigenous affairs since 1981, working with Indigenous NGOs as an academic and consultant. His presentation will include a sample of the maps and illustrations, and draw attention to the notion of remote and non-remote Austarlia, along with te associated distribution of some social cultural and economic features.
