Venue: Level 1, Sydney Mechanics' School of Arts, 280  Pitt Street, Sydney

Topic: This presentation takes a look at Sydney through the eyes of an archaeologist. With a focus on the late 18th and 19th century it explores what Sydney was like when the British arrived, where people lived and how the city expanded and changed over time. Traces of this past are still found today and we conclude with a closer look at The Rocks.

Presenter: Helen Nicholson holds archaeology degrees for the University of Sydney where she lectured for many years. She has developed and led over 30 overseas study tours to the Mediterranean and Middle East, spent several years working as a producer at the Powerhouse Museum, and has worked on numerous archaeological projects in Australia and overseas. Helen currently works as an archaeologist in Sydney and is now cataloguing and analysing the artefacts excavated prior to the construction of the Sydney Harbour YHA.
