Meeting Place:  Fleet Street North Parramatta at the entrance to Cumberland Hospital (a small roadway entrance off Fleet St)

Duration: Approximately 90 minutes

  • Designed by Convict architect Francis Greenway in 1818, The Female Factory is the oldest convict women’s site in Australia.
  • Judith Dunn gave a lively presentation at our May Workshop on The Crimes of Convict Women. Here is an opportunity to see where they served their sentences.
  • The tour will describe the lifestyle of convict women at The Female Factory and a general view of the transport and gaol system.

Getting There: If driving by car parking is available in Fleet St and adjoining streets. If travelling by train take the free Shuttle Bus from Macquarie St to the Leagues Club and walk 150 m from there. The shuttle buses go every 10 minutes. The Shuttle Bus also picks up at the Ferry Wharf.

Important to also note: There are no toilets at The Female Factory venue. Nearest toilets if coming by train – railway station.  If coming by car, McDonalds.
