AUBURN GALLIPOLI MOSQUE FAMIL

Meeting details: 9.45 am outside the mosque on the corner of Gelibolu Parade and Darkbrook Road.

Getting there and Parking: The mosque is a short walk from Auburn station. Parking is available on nearby streets

Duration: The tour lasts for one hour

Cost: Free.

  • The first mosque opened on the site in 1979. Construction began on the present mosque in 1986. It was not completed until 1999 mainly because of the time taken to raise the $6 million dollars required. This funding came from donations from the Turkish community.
  • The mosque is designed along Classic Ottoman lines and is characterised by a central dome and minarets..
  • The name of the mosque reflects the shared legacy of Australian society and the Turkish Muslim community.
  • 50 per cent of the present congregation is Turkish. The other 50 per cent comprises Muslims of diverse ethnic backgrounds

Those attending the tour are asked to dress modestly. Head scarves are optional but everyone is asked to wear shoes and socks. No sandals are allowed.
