GOVERNMENT HOUSE TOUR


Date: Friday 12 May 10.30 am 

Meeting Place: Meet at 10.15 am
at the Gatehouse next to the
main gate, Botanic Gardens

Duration: The tour lasts for 45 minutes but also allow time to
stroll through the gardens

Cost: Free

  • Designed by Edward Blore, architect to William IV and Queen Victoria in Gothic Revival style characterized by castellated towers and other medieval features. Construction commenced in 1836 but was not completed until 1845
  • The property has been the official residence of the Governor of New South Wales since 1845, except for two brief periods
  • The House holds a significant collection of portraits, furniture, decorative arts and gubernatorial memorabilia as a result of Vice Regal patronage
  • Surrounded by five hectares of gardens running down to Sydney Harbour.
