
FAMIL: Victoria Barracks Tour and Museum
Victoria Barracks Sydney was established is 1840, with the main barracks complete in 1848. It was made from Hawkesbury sandstone. The workers who built it were mostly convicts.
The gate on Oxford Street is called the Queen Victoria Gate. The gate on Moore Park Road is known as the Convict Gate.
There is also a special water tunnel called Busby's Bore. It was Sydney's second water supply.
The barracks was originally occupied by the British Army. It is a significant heritage site. The site houses Headquarters Forces Command and Headquarters 2nd Health Brigade, provides office space, a museum, live-in accommodation and a site for Cadet training.
The museum displays the history and heritage of the Army in New South Wales.
