IATG invites you to our Annual Workshop

Australia has a rich natural and cultural heritage that underpins a sense of place and national identity. Our heritage includes stories, traditions, events and experiences inherited from the past and is comprised of natural, historic and Indigenous places and people.

As tour guides and tour leaders our role is to showcase Australia's heritage. Through continually developing our knowledge of Australia's heritage means that we not only describe, but to provide meaning and understanding for our tour groups.

Join our annual professional development Workshop to develop our understanding of heritage and connections.

We have a great array of speakers including:

  • Geotourism: Understanding and interpreting cultural landscapesAngus M Robinson, Leisure Solutions and Australian Geoscience Council Inc. He is a eco-certified member of Ecotourism Australia Ltd, currently focused on geotourism industry development in Australia. He also serves as a special member of the Savannah Guides, operates an eco-certified tour in Queensland’s Scenic Rim as well as specialising in geotour development in the Red Centre, the Flinders Ranges, and the Blue Mountains.

  • Stories in Sandstone: Pam Forbes and Greg Jackson, Australian National Maritime MuseumThrough the history and archaeology of the Quarantine Station Pam and Greg will explore not only changes to medical and transport technology but also the social history of modern Australia.

  • James Barnet: The Colonial Architect. Don Napper, Emeritus Professor and a past Pro‐Vice‐Chancellor of University of Sydney. Following his retirement, Napper volunteered as  a tour guide for the National Trust and developed a interest in the architect, James Barnet.
